Syria reportedly is pressing Hamas and Islamic Jihad to renew suicide attacks against Israel. Despite Syrian President Bashar Assad’s participation in a recent meeting of Arab leaders who endorsed a Saudi peace initiative, Damascus has urged Hamas to step up operations and promised financial aid if it does so, the Israeli daily Ha’aretz reported Monday. Islamic Jihad already has agreed to do so, the paper said.
