Two surface-to-air missiles were fired by Syrian forces at Israeli aircraft today while on a routine reconnaissance mission over the Syrian-controlled Bekaa valley in Lebanon, an army spokesman reported. None of the planes were hit and all returned safely to their bases.
The spokesman said the missiles were fired from launchers just across the Syrian side of the Lebanon-Syrian frontier. Israel views the incident as a serious breach of the cease-fire agreement, the spokesman said. It was also reported today that an Israeli army vehicle travelling south of Beirut came under bazooka fire. The vehicle was not hit.
