Syria’s peace overtures to Israel are straining its ties with Iran, the chief of Israeli military intelligence said. “Syrian President Bashar Assad’s statements on peace with Israel are creating rifts between Syria and Iran and between Syria and Hezbollah,” Maj. Gen. Aharon Ze’evi-Farkash told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Tuesday, referring to the Lebanese terrorist group that enjoys the backing of both Damascus and Tehran.
