Syria’s ruling Ba’ath Party named the late Syrian President Hafez Assad’s son as its new leader. As the party took the action, the state newspaper Tishrin said Bashar Assad would continue his father’s firm stance toward Israel and would demand the complete return of the Golan Heights as part of any peace deal.
