The composition and the method of electing the city government of Tel Aviv were considerably changed by a decision of a special commission appointed for that purpose by the City Council.

The commission decided that the Council is, in future, to consist of only twelve members instead of the present number of 41. Due to the change in the election ordinance passed upon by the commission, several thousand of Tel Aviv citizens lost their franchise. The new elections will take place by the end of December.

Until now residents of the city were entitled to vote without regard to the amount of taxes they paid.
