Tel Aviv Mayor Roni Milo said he would appeal to Israel’s High Court of Justice if the Interior Ministry failed to ratify a municipal bylaw allowing the operation of entertainment facilities in Tel Aviv on the Sabbath. Five months ago, the Tel Aviv municipal council enacted the bylaw, which required the formal approval of the Interior Ministry. Milo, who has become an increasingly outspoken critic of what he calls religious coercion in Israel, said he would not allow life in Tel Aviv to be governed by religious law.
