Several thousand delegates from sisterhoods throughout New York State were present Sunday night at the opening of the second biennial convention of the New York State Federation of Temple Sisterhoods at the Temple Emanu-El. The speakers at the opening session were Rabbi Jonah B. Wise of the Central Synagogue, and Mrs. J. Lester Lewine and Mrs. Jerome H. Treier of the Federation of Young Folks’ Temple Leagues. The delegates were welcomed on behalf of Congregation Emanu-El by Benjamin Altheimer, honorary trustee and former president of the congregation, and Mrs. Richard Gottheil, who spoke for the woman’s auxiliary.
The convention sessions continued all day yesterday and will end today. At yesterday afternoon’s session a symposium on the relation of Judaism to other faiths was held. Last night the annual dinner took place, at which the principal speakers were Dr. Nathan Krass, Meier Steinbrink and Adolph S. Ochs.
There are twenty-four Temple Sisterhoods in the metropolitan district.
