The 500 members of the newly-founded Partido dos Trabalhadores (Labor Party) chanted “PLO, PLO” at the party’s national convention in Brasilia. Farid Sawan, a representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and Inacio da Silva, president of the party and leader of the Metal Workers Union in the Sao Paulo district, received the greatest applause.
