The BBC aired a show in which an international law expert said Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon could be indicted on war crimes charges in connection with the Sabra and Shatilla massacre of Palestinian civilians by Christian militiamen during the 1982 Lebanon war. According to the Israeli daily Ha’aretz, Israeli officials warned the BBC that they may take legal action if they conclude that the program contains libelous material.
