The Cabinet decided Sunday to establish a National Energy Authority with overall authority over Israel’s energy-economy. The body will prepare guidelines for the government’s energy policy and will be responsible for its implementation. The new authority will also be responsible for oil prospecting in Israel, the acquisition of oil franchises here and abroad, the use of electricity, energy conservation and the search for alternative energy sources.
