The Central Information Bureau for Jewish wanderers in the Far East at Harbin, has reported to the Hias on the work being done to aid Jewish wanderers.
“We have been notified by the American Consul here that he has received from the American Consul in Riga who controls the issuance of visas for emigrants from Russia, 30 additional visas charged to the Russian quota. These visas will be granted to women and children of declarants according to the new American immigration law.
“These visas are in addition to the former 20 visas for the preferred class. Immediately upon the receipt of the notification, we informed the women who are registered in our office and we are preparing the necessary documents for them.
“For ordinary emigrants charged to the Polish quota, we have not this year received any visas from the control office in Warsaw. Only emigrants in preferred classes receive visas and in every instance a visa number has to be produced. For those born here, we already have received 62 visas which have been distributed over the first ten months.”
The Harbin Office of Hias ministers to the needs of the refugees in Harbin and in neighboring cities.
