The European Union said it would not suspend a trade agreement with Israel, despite a call by a senior U.N. official to do so. Jean Ziegler, the U.N. special rapporteur on the right to food, had written to the outgoing president of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, that Israel was abusing its association agreement with the union by “violating” Palestinians’ right to food.
