The former leader of Israel’s internal security service said he feared that settlers could fire on Israeli troops or carry out a suicide attack. Avi Dichter, who ended his term as Shin Bet head last month, said in interviews with the Israeli press that extremists who want to prevent the upcoming Gaza Strip withdrawal could target Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for assassination. Dichter, who said he was considering entering politics, came out in support of the Gaza withdrawal.
