Counter the rumor—or is it a well-established fact? —that Magda Lupescu, King Carol’s mistress, is, or was, a Jewess. Of course the game can be played according to varying personal predilections. I would play it to the end of excluding the distinguished swine, while another would play it to exclude the gentlemen. And the point of the whole business is that it takes all kinds of Jews to make a Jewish community and that it is about as futile to exclude Jews of the type that discredit the race as it is to include those who either are not Jews or do not wish to be known as such. We are not a race of saints and we are not a race of swine, and if the gentlemen of the Anglo-Jewish press are going to continue laying claim to eminence, they ought to make some distinction between true eminence and a talent for successful racketeering.
