The Israel Bond Organization’s annual Israeli Independence Ball presented awards Sunday night to Ann Miller, Broadway musical comedy star and Hollywood film star Gene Kelly. About 1100 guests attended. The awards were presented by Ambassador Ephraim Evron who, noting that Israel’s actual anniversary was two months ago, remarked: “I hope it’s not because the organizers of this event want to make sure we survive the day and go on.” Evron said that Israel would go on. The theme of the ball was “Make the Negev Bloom.”
