The Italian government began a two-day conference addressing anti-Semitism on Wednesday. The Rome conference, “Anti-Semitism — A Threat to Democracy,” was initiated due to a poll last year that showed Europeans think Israel poses the greatest threat to world peace and democracy, said Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, who addressed the conference. It’s significant that Italy is hosting the conference, Foxman told JTA from Rome.
