The longtime chief rabbi of South Africa, Cyril Harris, died Tuesday of cancer at age 69. Harris, who was chief rabbi emeritus when he died, led the Jewish community during the historic process of transition in South Africa, guiding it from the days of apartheid to a democratic order.
