The Middle East requires a comprehensive solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, the U.S. general commanding operations in Iraq said. “I’ve rarely seen it so unsettled or so volatile,” Gen. John Abizaid, head of Central Command, said Thursday in Senate testimony. He outlined what he said needed to be done: coordinate with other nations to defeat Al-Qaida; deter Iran’s sponsorship of terrorists and acquisition of nuclear weapons; and “find a comprehensive solution to the corrosive Arab-Israeli conflict.”
