The Nine Gates Jewish Festival kicks off June 11 in Prague focusing on composer George Gershwin who died 70 years ago. The seven-day festival will include a photographic exhibition of Jewish personalities who survived the Holocaust at the University of Economics. The opening concert on June 12 will present Gershwin’s works played by the Czech National Symphony with conductor Libor Pesek. A number of Czech opera soloists will sing in the jazz opera Porgy and Bess on June 16. The festival will also include theater performances by troupes from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Russia, including a version of “The Golem” by Gustav Meyrink.
