The Palestinian Authority jailed two men for the killing of two off-duty Israeli soldiers.

A Palestinian Authority court this week sentenced two Hebron men, both linked to Palestinian security forces, to 15 years in prison after finding them guilty of ambushing and killing the soldiers, who were hiking in the West Bank last month.

The sentence, and the fact that it will be served in a Palestinian Authority prison, angered the victims’ families, who assailed the Israeli government for not demanding that the killers be extradited.

Israeli officials relented on a demand that the Palestinians be tried in the Jewish state. Israel’s Channel 2 television reported last week that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s office approved a Palestinian Authority request to keep custody of the killers.
