The possibility of Mr. Filene’s succeeding Secretary of Labor Davis in the Cabinet was denied by him in a statement to newspapermen here when his attention was drawn to the persistent reports from New York and Washington.

“I am well known as a Democrat and Mr. Hoover can find hundreds of Republicans better than me. I openly supported Mr. Smith by word and deed. I am not, never have been, nor do I intend to be a candidate for any political office.” Mr. Filene declared.
