To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:

The report in this morning’s Bulletin from the Near East and India regarding the defeat of the Nasha-shibit party in Jerusalem and its effect upon the legislative council, is the best and the biggest news item I have read in your columns for several weeks.

If now M. M. Ussishkin of the Jewish National Fund and Ben Zwi of the Left Wing—who I am told are responsible—would cease to create the impression that a Jewish Mayor in Jerusalem is an impossible thought, we would come closer to the realities of the internal political position in Palestine than we have been hitherto. For the defeat of the pro-British Arab group in Jerusalem, so far as I can make out, no Zionist organization and no Zionist party is responsible, more is the pity, but it is illustrative of the fact that natural pressure is superior to argument in many situations.

I am as pro-Jewish as the British are pro-British, and therefore I can be thoroughly objective in observing the pressure they exercise against us in Palestine. Nor am I deeply impressed by your headline this morning, “Britain Warns Hitler.” According to the New York Times of Thursday, she did, on the arms question. Nor do I hold it against Great Britain if she does not blister with anger over the Jewish cause.

“SCARE” SERMONS

To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:

I notice in The Bulletin of November 28 that a Baptist minister preached on the topic “How to Destroy the Jews.” It is of interest to note that on October 28, a Baptist preacher in Oneonta, N. Y., announced the topic of his sermon “How to Destroy the Jews,” having the previous week praised Hitler and his regime. This topic naturally put a scare into the few Jewish residents of Oneonta and together with a committee from Utica I visited the church to hear the preacher. As in the cases you mentioned the sermon turned out to be a sermon of praise for the Jews and he even used the same text, “Destroy the Heavens and the Earth and Israel will cease to be a nation.”

Is it an anomaly or a coincidence that in each case the subject was the same and the preachers were of the Baptist persuasion?

BOLD ANALYSIS

To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:

Please allow me to congratulate the Bulletin and Mr. Ziff for his excellent articles in the Bulletin on November 21, 22 entitled “Our Friends the British.” His bold and incisive analysis of the Palestine situation and his exposure of the damnable hypocricy of our so-called English friends, deserves the heartfelt thanks of every Jew to whom his nation’s future means something. It is high time that every serious minded Jew should realize the true role played by England in regard to Palestine and world Jewry.

In its systematic blocking of our every effort in Palestine, in its attempt to extinguish the only ray of hope left to the Jewish people, England is causing infinitely more harm to world Jewry than even Hitler who at the very worst could only destroy a small portion of Jewry. England in spite of its hypocritical protestations has raised its hand against the heart of Jewry and is aiming to destroy its very essence and its only hope of survival. Through its cruel restrictions against Jewish immigration and its unreasonable law governing the purchase of land by Jews, England has already destroyed the very foundation of the Jewish National Home.

I am very happy that at last some one found enough courage to tell the truth in such an effective manner. The Bulletin would render a distinctive service to the Jewish cause in stimulating further discussion along these lines. Only by being acquainted with the true facts can we ever hope to arrive at a satisfactory program for action.
