The spiritual leader of Israel’s fervently Orthodox Shas Party has reportedly initiated a plan to bring some Ethiopians to Israel. According to the Israeli daily Ha’aretz, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef devised the plan following a secret visit to Ethiopia by a close adviser to assess the situation of the Falash Mura, a community of roughly 26,000 whose ancestors converted from Judaism to Christianity in the 19th century.
