Leading Golden Glovers, Kings County, and metropolitan champions sling gloves tonight in the A. A. U. boxing tournament at the Broadway arena. Johnny Vitale, Marty Pomerantz, Solly Hoffman, and Eric Higgins are on the card. Pomerantz is the King’s County featherweight champ. The first bout starts at 8:30.

RIDGEWOOD GROVE TOMORROW NIGHT

A crackerjack card will support the Steve Dudas-Chester Matan heavyweight final at the Grove tomorrow night.

Gus Lesnevich tackles Sid Cohen in the semi-final windup. Incidentally, Chester Matan has been trading punches with Primo Carnera in preparation for his fight with Dudas. It seems to us a rather suicidal way of training for a fight. Also, Chester is of the opinion that Carnera is just a wee shade better than modest Maxie Baer.

SOCCER ON SUNDAY

This Sunday, May 20, the Hatikvoh’s first team will meet the Liberty football club, of Unionville, N.J., in a regular league game on Hawthorne field, Brooklyn. The Hatikvoh reserves are scheduled to play the preliminary against the Passaic football club, team A. The first game will begin at 2 and the main event will start at 4.

For the Bronx football fans who would like to travel to Brooklyn and see a good brand of soccer, take the Seventh avenue Flatbush line to the Winthrop street station. The field is within short walking distance.
