The U.N. Security Council was scheduled to meet Thursday evening to consider some form of criticism of Israel for invading Palestinian territory during the last week. On Tuesday, the Council opted to wait 48 hours to see if Israel would withdraw. On Thursday, they were expected to consider a range of options: do nothing; wait another 48 hours; have the council’s president issue a statement critical of the Israeli move; or pass a formal resolution censuring Israel. The United States was said to support the first option.
