The U.S. State Department reiterated its opposition to Israeli settlement construction in the wake of Israeli plans to expand the West Bank settlement of Efrat by several hundred homes. This type of activity undermines confidence and does not “create the environment required for successful negotiations” said James Rubin, spokesman for the State Department.
