The umbrella group for North American Jewish federations is the seventh largest charitable organization in the United States, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy. In addition to the United Jewish Communities, 24 other Jewish charities appear in the newspaper’s annual ranking of the 400 largest philanthropies. Last year, there were 27 on the list. Led by New York and Chicago, half of the Jewish charities were federations and community foundations.
