The United States reportedly tried to stop Israel from selling an airborne early-warning system to India. A U.S. official reportedly approached the Israeli diplomats in Washington to ask Israel to freeze a $1 billion contract to supply the Indian air force with Phalcon planes, Army Radio reported. Israeli legislator Yuval Steinitz, who chairs the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said Israel takes into account such a request only if the sale of the system could pose a threat to the United States.
