The world Maccabi sports organization lent $327,000 to a fund established for the families of Australian athletes injured in a tragedy at the 1997 Maccabiah Games. The loan brings the total amount of money that the organization has reportedly contributed to the fund to more than $700,000. Four athletes were killed and dozens injured when a bridge collapsed during the Games’ Opening Ceremonies.
