There are constant death threats against Ariel Sharon, an Israeli official said. “There are threats all the time, mainly against the prime minister,” Israel’s deputy internal security minister, Ya’acov Edri, told Israel Radio on Thursday. “The security apparatus is preparing itself for the worst-case scenario and hoping for the best.” Extra bodyguards have been posted around Sharon in recent weeks amid fears of an assassination attempt by extremists opposed to his plan to withdraw from the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank.
