There is no U.S.-Israeli plan to oust Hamas from power, the White House said. “There is no plot, there is no plan,” White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Tuesday, denying a New York Times report that Israel and the United States hope to oust the terrorist group by starving the Palestinian Authority of cash. Hamas won a landslide victory in legislative elections last month. McClellan said the Bush administration still expects Hamas to recognize Israel, end terrorism and renounce calls for Israel’s destruction. Those U.S. views are shared not just with Israel, he said. “The conversations that we have with Israel are the same kind of conversations we have with European governments, Arab governments and others,” he said.
