Thousands of Moscovites today braved freezing temperatures to attend a state funeral in Red Square for Col. Gen. Lev Zakharovich Mekhlis, a former Minister of State Control and one of the two Jews who remained on the Communist Party Central Committee, who died last Friday at the age of 64, the Moscow Radio reported. Gen. Mekhlis’ body was cremated and the ashes were buried along the wall of the Kremlin near the tomb of Lenin.
