Three leading Polish Jews were awarded the Order of Merit by the Polish Government for cultural contributions. They were Prof. Ber Mark, director of the Jewish Historical Institute in Poland, Dr. David Sfard, poet and author, and Dr. Benjamin Nadel, university lecturer. They were received by Culture Minister Lucien Motika who decorated them personally.
