The city fathers of Bydgosc, formerly Bromberg, in the province of Posen, now a part of Poland, have not yet decided fully whether or not their city is to accept the gift of an American Jewish woman, in the amount of $100,000 for the relief of the city’s “poor Jews.”
Following the refusal of the city authorities to accept the administration of the fund as provided in the will of Mrs. Leonard Cohen of Wilkes Barre, Pa., the matter is again to come up in the Bydgosc city council on Thursday. The case was reopened due to the plea of the local Jewish community, which pointed out that the reason given by the city council that there are no Jewish poor is refuted by the facts. A full discussion is to take place on Thursday. The city government, however, has again recommended to the city council not to accept the bequest.
