The building of Congregation Tifereth Israel, 3940 Girard avenue, and the home of the Parkside Hebrew School were destroyed by fire last night.
Isadore Kovnat, 1133 North Union street, secretary of the congregation, and Louis Rubin, 3930 Poplar street, broke through the rear door shortly after the fire was discovered and rescued the Torahs.
