Trade between Israel and Britain last year rose by more than 6,000,000 pounds sterling ($16, 800,000) over 1956, it was announced here last night at the seventh annual general meeting of the Anglo-Israel Chamber of Commerce. Israel Sieff was reelected chairman of the organization.
The major increase in exports from Britain to the Jewish State was accounted for by the sale of a number of Bristol Britannia passenger aircraft to El Al National Airlines. Furs and wool made up a substantial portion of the remaining exports from Britain.
Israel sold Britain fruit and vegetables, with an increase in value of nearly 2,000,000 pounds in value. Israel’s chemical industry chalked up the greatest increase in trade with British firms, selling 580,000 pounds worth of chemicals in 1957 as against 50,000 pounds worth in 1956.
