The lifting of state controls on property of Jewish deportees in northern Transylvania which are still partly in effect was demanded at a Jewish lawyers conference held in Cluj during the week-end.
The conference, which met to discuss the legal problems of northern Transylvanian Jewry, also recommended that the Rumanian law which limits inheritance to fourth degree relatives should be waived in the case of Transylvanian Jews in favor of the Hungarian law which sets the limit at twelfth degree relatives since Transylvania was formerly Hungarian territory.
The lawyers suggested that all inheritance taxes be set aside in the case of deportees. Although no stand was taken on who should administer hairless property, it is known that the majority of the Jews of Transylvania favor administration by local Jewish communities.
