The Treasury Department will soon be asked to take a hand in the Palestine situation by determining whether certain contributions made for Palestine as a result of advertisements in the American press are tax-free.

This was revealed today by Secretary of State James F. Byrnes at his press conference at which he confirmed that British Ambassador Lord Inverchapel had called on him a few days ago regarding the continued appearance of advertisements in newspapers in this country soliciting funds for “illegal” Jewish organizations in Palestine.
