Trial of a former Nazi official, now a shopkeeper in Eschwege, on charges of insulting the Jews was postponed here today until Feb. 8, after the Union of Hesse Jewish communities was permitted by the court to intervene in the case as an interested party.
The former official, George Engelmann, 64, headed a German office in Poland during the war charged with administering Jewish property. He was accused of repeatedly stating of the Jews in public that “too few of this race has been gassed.” The court described the statement as a grave insult to the Jewish community.
