Trial of Vichy Official in Charge of “commissariat for Jewish Affairs” Opens in Paris

The trial of Joseph Antignac, secretary-general of the Commissariat for Jewish Affairs during the pro-Nazi Vichy regime, began here today. The prosecution presented a long list of charges of anti-Jewish activities by M. Antignac and other members of the Commissariat. In his defense, Antignac said he accepted the post of secretary-general “only to prevent the worst” for the Jews.
