True Christians “will wage war upon anti-Semitism as they would upon Antichrist,” Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver of Cleveland declared in an address prepared for delivery tonight at the banquet of the 25th anniversary convention of the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods.

“Anti-Semitism is not the foe of Israel only,” Rabbi Silver asserted. “It is the foe of mankind. Anti-Semitism is being exploited today by certain governments and political parties in order to draw the attention of the people away from the real economic issues and to incite and stampede them into a surrender of their most precious rights and liberties.”

Citing the new difficulties and new tasks that lie in the path of democracy, speakers called upon women to play a leading role in the defeat of Fascism and in the building of a world free from hate and insecurity.

The meeting, held in the Grand Ballroom of the Palmer House here, was opened with an international radio broadcast in which Lily M. Montagu, secretary of the World Union for Progressive Judaism, greeted the Sisterhoods from London.
