President Truman is “very distressed” at Senate failure to act on the House-approved displaced persons bill, Rep. Emanuel Celler of New York said today following a visit to the White House.

Celler said the President told him that he was doing” everything possible” get the legislation out of the Senate Judiciary Committee where Sen. Pat McCarran he it bottled up.
