Twenty-eight U.S. governors signed a letter to Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, urging him to intercede in the trial of 13 Iranian Jews being tried for spying for Israel and the United States. The letter asks that Iran guarantee the 13 a fair trial and allow them to be represented by lawyers of their own choosing.
