Two young pilots were killed when their light civilian plane crashed shortly after takeoff north of Tel Aviv last Wednesday.
The ITIM news agency reported that the two 19-year-old men, attending an army pilot training course, rented a two-seater plane privately from a flying club at Herzlia airfield and were said by eye-witnesses to be performing low-level aerobatics when their aircraft plunged to the ground near Kibbutz Yakum some five miles north of the airstrip.
Club officials said the craft had been checked out and found airworthy before the flight. The Transport Ministry has set up an inquiry commission into the incident.
