Two Jewish officials have joined publisher Mortimer Zuckerman as the leading candidates for the chairmanship of the country’s most powerful Jewish organization. Howard Berkowitz, the past chairman of the Anti-Defamation League, and Leonard Cole, the chairman of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, are expected to be considered by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations’ selection committee when it meets April 18. Zuckerman, the publisher of U.S. News & World Report and the New York Daily News, is considered the front-runner for the position.
