Within six hours of their appearance in court, two Jews, declared atheists, were convicted yesterday as Communist leaders seeking the downfall of the Hungarian government and hanged.
They are Americh Szalay and Alexander Fuerst. A semi-official communique states that the execution was hurried for the reason that the Constitution provides that no Jew may be executed on the Sabbath.
An appeal for the postponement of the execution arrived too late.
The accused admitted that they attempted the reorganization of the Hungarian Communist Party. They claimed that their work was of an unimportant technical character and planned the utilization of peaceful means only.
