Soviet authorities have granted exit visas to Prof. Mark Azbel and Dr. Yuri Mnyukh, the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry reported today. The SSSJ said it learned from Moscow this morning that Mnyukh, a solid-state physicist, had already left the USSR.

Azbel, 45, also a physicist, is one of the most prominent Moscow “refusniks.” He had been seeking a visa, unsuccessfully, for the past six years. He presided over an unofficial weekly seminar of Jewish scientists who were dismissed from their jobs after applying for visas. The seminars were conducted to keep them abreast of the latest scientific developments in their fields.
