Warning that despite a seeming relaxation of Middle East tension, this summer still threatens to produce “the deadliest of emergencies” for Israel’s people, William Rosenwald, general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, announced today that the UJA was launching a $50,000,000 cash collection drive and was summoning its nationwide leadership to a National Action Conference in New York on June 9 and 10.

At the same time, Mr. Rosenwald made known the appointment of a three-man team of top leaders to direct the cash collection effort, the greatest in the UJAs 18-year history Samuel H. Daroff of Philadelphia, a UJA national chairman, was named national cash chairman to head the collection drive. Samuel Rothberg of Peoria, III., and Michael A Stavistsky of Newark; N.J., were named national cash vice-chairmen. Both are members of the UJA National Campaign Cabinet, the organizations chief planning body.
