Dr. Charles Malik of Lebanon, president of this year’s General Assembly, does not see “at the present moment at least a sign of improved Arab-Israel relations.” Dr. Malik made the statement today in reply to questions at a luncheon tendered him by the United Nations Correspondents Association.
Conceding that “Israel is an international reality,” the president of the General Assembly viewed the Middle East problem as one that is “very difficult” and at least In part a result of the profound conflicts between the Great Powers. The former Foreign Minister of Lebanon said that the basis of the differences between Israel and the Arab states is moral and psychological rather than one of technological Imbalance.
