In response to an urgent request from the Government of Israel, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund has rushed two iron lungs by air to Haifa to help in combatting a serious increase in polio, it was announced here today.

The lungs are the portable type. They have already arrived, and are about to be used to assist stricken children. Two larger, nonportable lungs are also on the way, having been loaned for six months by the British Government, to UNICEF, for use in Israel.
